House of Bones

October 5th by fortylover

A 14th Century Bonehouse in Hallstatt, Austria. They have over a 1000 skulls and bones. The skulls are painted symbolically with flowers and neatly stacked. They dig out skulls and bones from the cemetery after 10-15 years and then dry the bones, clean them and paint them. This was done because the cemetery was too small. Although this practice has not been followed since 1995..
